Soul Spelunker: Thoughts On Heidegger's Being And Time

Soul Spelunker: Thoughts On Heidegger's Being And Time
Lived experience is a concept gaining ground in mental health research. It is, however, not easy to define. In the post linked above, I found some helpful explanations of Hegel and  Heidegger's vision of 'being' in terms of organic and developmental processes. Rather than the dominant approach of subject/object division, the concept of Dasein reflects a more holistic state of being in the world. From this theoretical stance it is then possible to discuss lived experience as an investigable phenomenon and so drive forward a more humanistic approach to research, evaluation, practice and policy. This is just one of the topics I will be discussing in my upcoming book with Palgrave publishers - to be released in the near future, entitled Creativity and Social Support in Mental Health: Service Users' Views, based on my own ethnographic research along with the work of others in the field of creative therapy and mental health recovery.

Opening Up to Living from the Heart

This is my first post for my new blog Creative Mental Health. My aims for this blog are to explore the world of creativity, mental health and positive psychology and to share all the fantastic books, blogs and sites I am discovering in the process. I also want to eventually use the blog as a platform to disseminate resources and inspirational material related to a book I am completing on the role of creativity and social support in mental health recovery. I hope people will find the posts helpful and motivational as well as entertaining, so without further ado, let me share with you a brilliant book I just finished reading.

By Eoin McCabe, Open: How Learning to Live from the Heart Changed Everything is a treasure for anyone struggling with anxiety, depression or just plain bewilderment. Through his own life experiences and a kind of trial and error process, the author shares ideas and techniques that helped him deal with upheavals and crises. I couldn't put it down and I know it is one if those books I'll keep going back to again and again, probably for life! Highly recommended. So, until next time, stay focused on creating your dreams and hang on in there and in the meantime here's a photo if the Taxza Fountain, Kensington Gds London taken by Fintan McDonnell : )
